Narrow-gauge railway between Västervik and Hultsfred The narrow-gauge railway between Hultsfred and Västervik is very unusual. It is 70 kilometres long, but only 891 millimetres. wide; it stretches from the forests in the west, past small lakes, through villages out to the coast in the east. Climb aboard the railbus, feel that atmosphere, and join us for a very different railway journey. It is here you can experience how a train journey used to be. The whole operation is run by volunteers from all over Sweden and abroad; for example, neither the driver nor the conductor receives any remuneration for services rendered, and your fares go directly into maintaining the railway. During the summer the railbuses operate along the full length of line between Hultsfred and Västervik. Ride all theway or take just a shorter trip. Relax with some light onboard refreshments while the journey reveals its many views. Since the early 1950s the orange-and-yellow railbuses have transversed the line, so climb aboard and enjoy a trip as it used to be. Trains operate daily 8 July to 20 August, and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays 22 August to 9 September. Onboard service on most trains, with tea, coffee, refreshments and souvenirs.
