Åbro Bryggeri is Sweden’s oldest family brewery, and beer has been brewed here since 1856 with water from one and the same spring in Vimmerby in Småland. In addition to the modern brewery, Åbro is constantly expanding its operations. In 2019, Andreaz Norén will be at the helm of the restaurant Brygghuset and the other four restaurants under Åbro’s subsidiary Axel Herman Invest AB.
Andreaz and his family, who live in southern Stockholm, were introduced to Vimmerby just a year ago. A holiday at a horse farm just outside the town packed with excursions and visitor attractions made the whole family fall for Småland’s environment with its idyllic nature filled with cottages and farms. Vimmerby soon went from a nice holiday memory to a new and exciting workplace.
The development of Brygghuset is imminent, and the family atmosphere of a true British pub is something that is close to Andreaz’s heart after his 26 years in the restaurant trade. The menu will be full of classic pub dishes, and a new investment in Monday, Tuesday and Sunday roasts for the right pub feel is planned. Naturally, the food will be complemented with a wide selection of own-brewed products, such as beer, cider and soft drinks.
Åbro’s fantastic craft and long history are close to the restaurant guests throughout their visit. Those with a special interest can follow the production of the beer, soft drinks and cider on a guided tour of the big brewery hall. Otherwise, good food and drink can be enjoyed in the restaurant with views of the newly installed microbrewery Lilla Åbro or in the outdoor seating area with a view of the bridge across the river that once gave the place its name Åbro (river bridge).
